Introduction
An ancient
country boasting unique, fascinating cultures and historic sites
at every turn, Israel proves a tour destination like no other.
For 10 days of this comprehensive 17-day tour through two
exciting Middle Eastern destinations, we see a wealth of
important historic and Biblical sites, like: the birthplace of
Jesus Christ, upon which was built the 4th century Church of the
Nativity; the location where in 1947, two shepherd boys made one
of the most significant discoveries in religious history - the
Dead Sea Scrolls (written texts of the Old Testament); the
setting for the archangel's declaration to the Virgin Mary
concerning the coming of Jesus at what is now the Church of the
Annunciation; and the place where Jesus performed the miracle of
the loaves and fishes. From the bustling streets of the largest
commercial centre, Tel Aviv -- a modern city with a unique mix
of European and Middle Eastern influences -- amid Roman ruins
and monuments in Caesarea, through the streets of the
sophisticated, sleek and reverent capital of Jerusalem and to
the emerald waves of the picturesque Sea of Galilee -- upon
which we take a pleasant cruise -- we see the many faces of
Israel and appreciate its diverse beauty. Crossing into Jordan,
we visit beautifully preserved ancient Roman amphitheatres,
desert highways and palaces, Bedouin tribesmen -- the nomadic
herdsmen of the area -- crusader castles and magnificent Petra,
the 'rose red city half as old as time' which is the most
impressive archaeological site in the Middle East.. |

Itinerary
While Egypt's
many historical sites are
rightly famous, Jordan also has
a lot to offer the modern
traveller including historical
remains from many different
cultures, and beautiful scenery.
We start by visiting the
pyramids & sphinx and main sites
in Cairo before featuring a
luxury Nile Cruise from Aswan to
Luxor. We visit St. Catherine's
Monastery & Mt. Sinai, and enjoy
some snorkelling, before heading
to Jordan to travel up the
King's Highway and visit Petra,
Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea, among
other sites
|
|
You start your Egyptian
adventure in Cairo with a visit
one of the seven wonders of the
ancient world, the great
pyramids at Gisa. Our next tour
visits the famous Egyptian
Museum, the Citadel, a couple of
mosques, and the Khan-el-Khalili
bazaar.
An overnight sleeper train takes
you south to the beautiful town
of Aswan, on the banks of the
Nile just north of the Aswan Dam
and Lake Nasser. Here the Nile
is at its most attractive, and
you have time to relax and watch
feluccas sail lazily around the
many small islands or experience
traditional Egyptian life with a
stroll along the mazy streets of
the town’s colourful bazaar. We
take you on a visit to the
island temple of Philae and you
have the option of a flight out
to Abu Simbel, with its
remarkable rebuilt temple to
Ramses II, before beginning your
cruise down the Nile towards
Luxor.
You can relax by the pool and
watching the world go by during
the day, and enjoy different
cuisines in the restaurant in
the boat restaurant each
evening. En route you will stop
at the temples of Komombo and
Edfu before finally reaching
Luxor.
In Luxor you take a tour to the
Pharaonic tombs in the Valleys
of the Kings, visit Queen
Hatchepsut and Medinat Habu
temples, and also tour the vast
temples of Luxor and Karnak. |
|
From Luxor you travel back to
Cairo where there is an option
to visit the Mediterranean city
of Alexandria, before we drive
across the Suez Canal and into
the Sinai peninsular where we
spend a night at the foot of Mt.
Sinai, next to St. Catherine's
Monastery. After visiting the
monastery and climbing Mt. Sinai
(optional), we enjoy some
spectacular snorkelling at the
Blue Hole, just outside Dahab. |
|
After crossing by ferry
into Jordan, we feature an
afternoon jeep safari amid the
stunning desert & mountain
scenery of Wadi Rum, before
spending the night at a
comfortable Bedouin camp. Our
next stop is Petra, one of the
highlights of the tour, where we
have a full day tour of this
world famous Nabatean city. |
|
From Petra we head north up the
scenic King's Highway to Amman,
with stops to visit the crusader
castle of Kerak, the intricate
Byzantine mosaics at Madaba, and
the peaks, churches and distant
views at Mt. Nebo. We take a day
trip out from Amman to bathe in
the Dead Sea, and visit the
Roman Ruins at
Jerash. The tour finishes
in Amman (Open Jaw flights are
readily available to fly into
Cairo and out of Amman). |
